Execulink partners with Oxford County to provide high speed internet to underserved
and non-served areas

Burgessville, Ontario – March 26, 2010…The County of Oxford has selected Execulink Telecom to develop and build the infrastructure and services that will bring high-speed broadband internet to all corners of the County by the summer of 2011.

The selection of Execulink Telecom as the internet service provider marks a major milestone for the Rural Oxford Connections project, which launched in August 2009 with the support of provincial funding. A project steering committee has been meeting since that time to develop and oversee a work plan, technical plan and service level agreement for the project.

The Request for Proposals was issued in December 2009. Execulink’s proposal was chosen for its strong local knowledge and resourcefulness.

“This partnership secures close to $1 million in funding from the Government of Ontario which will be spent in Oxford County, provides us access to 13 county towers and positions us as a leading telecommunications provider in the County,” says Jonathan Scott, CFO and VP of Operations at Execulink Telecom.

“By late summer of 2011, we will have upgraded our core backbone network in the County, extended our DSL reach and rebuilt and expanded our wireless internet footprint. It’s fantastic that, through this partnership, residents and businesses will have access to affordable high speed internet regardless of where they live in the County.”

Execulink Telecom has been a leader in the telecommunications industry for more than 100 years. Execulink offers a full range of communication services including internet, local and Voice over IP telephone, long distance and fibre connectivity to business, government and residential customers. The company was founded in 1904 and is based in Burgessville, Ontario with additional offices in Kitchener, London and Thedford serving customers in Southwestern Ontario and across Canada.

“The internet is already a key access point for municipal, provincial and federal government services and information. High-speed internet access across all our municipalities will allow Oxford’s residents to access these kinds of services more quickly and to participate in the growing culture of online communities,” says Lynn Buchner, Director of Corporate Services at County of Oxford.

Quick Facts

The Government of Ontario’s Rural Connections Broadband Program is providing $988,333 for this project.

Once completed, all of Oxford County’s 2,041 km2 will have high-speed internet coverage.
