Wireless High Speed Frequently Asked Questions

What is Wireless High Speed?

Wireless High Speed is a terrestrial based microwave technology. A broadband signal is sent from an Execulink Telecom Wireless Tower and picked up by a device, called a Broadband Access System, which is mounted on the outside wall or roof of your home. Unlike wired technology such as fibre or copper, which is what Cable and DSL services use, Wireless High Speed transmits a signal through the air.

How do I know if service is available where I live?

Since obstructions such as trees and buildings can interfere with a wireless signal, Execulink Telecom will perform a no cost site survey at your home to see if a proper signal can be obtained from our tower.

How fast is the service?

Residential Wireless High Speed can provide you with download speeds up to 1.5Mbps and upload speeds up to 500kbps. This will allow you to do online activities such browsing the web, accessing social media sites as well as downloading and streaming video, music and games.

Is 50GB per month of usage enough?

Most Wireless High Speed users will never exceed 50GB per month. If you do exceed 50GB per month, then you will be billed at $2.00 per GB. Higher usage plans that include 125GB/month and 300GB/month of usage are also available.

Can weather affect the quality of service?

Like any wireless signal, changes to the environment can cause interference, however only severe rain and snow should affect your service. At most you may see a 10% reduction in speed during a heavy rain or snow storm.

Do trees and buildings interfere with a wireless internet signal?

Yes, both will diminish the signal. For that reason, you will require a clear line-of-sight to one of our access points.

Can other equipment interfere with a wireless internet signal?

There are known issues with interference, including (but not limited to) amateur radios, existing microwave towers or antennas, and other 2.4 or 5.8 Ghz wireless devices. If you have a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone, you will need to locate it at least 10 feet away from your computer, antenna cable, and/or antenna.

What if High Speed DSL becomes available?

If High Speed DSL becomes available where you live then we will switch you to this service. If you are on a contract, you can finish your contract term on the High Speed DSL service.

What does installation include?

For this service, our technicians will install a PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) radio outside the home that will connect to the Network-Interface-Controller (NIC) card inside your computer. This will require a small hole to be drilled through your exterior wall. An ethernet cable will then be connected from the outside to one jack on that radio, and the other jack will have an ethernet connection to the computer. Execulink Telecom recommends you check your computer before ordering our wireless service to ensure that you have a NIC card installed in your computer (instructions can be found here for Microsoft Windows). Apple and Macintosh computers purchased after 1995 have built-in NIC cards.

When installing Wireless Internet, will there be damage to my roof?

No. Most of our installations use wall-mounting brackets or a non-penetrating base & brick assembly. A base & brick assembly saddles your roof at the apex (the bricks weigh down the base and tripod). This keeps the antenna in place without penetrating the building's roof structure.

What equipment is required for a Wireless High Speed connection?

To use Execulink Telecom's Wireless High Speed Internet service, you will require a computer with Windows 98 or any newer version of Windows, or Mac OS 9 or newer. You will also require a network card. Execulink will provide a transceiver (radio), the antenna, and the cables connecting them.

Is Execulink Telecom’s Internet connection secure?

Yes. Execulink Telecom's network infrastructure is designed to prevent unauthorized access. For example, our Wireless High Speed Internet service uses a technology that is also used by the military, changing frequency 40 times per second, making it nearly impossible to intercept. Whether you use dialup, DSL, cable or wireless, your browsing is not stored, and your information is not shared with third parties. Despite all of the measures Execulink Telecomtakes to secure our network and protect your connection, your computer still needs anti-virus protection, a basic firewall or router, and protection against malware.
