Is your password secure enough?

Your password is your first line of defense in protecting your privacy; it can also be your strongest defense - if done properly. We often overlook the role a good strong password plays in securing our lives. Sacrificing security and privacy for speed and convenience can have dire consequences; just ask anyone who has had their data or identity stolen.

Think of security as a chain, all the links strong and secure; the password representing one of the many links and if it weakens and fails, then the efforts of all the other links (SSL encryption of customer data for example) is for naught.

As a good rule, a strong password should include a mix of upper and lowercase letters, as well as numbers and non-alphanumeric characters such as # and % and be at least 6 characters long.

Some examples of what your password should never include:

 • The word "password"
 • A string of numbers in sequence (e.g. 1234)
 • Any part of your username (your username and password should never be the same)
 • Your children's, spouse's or pets names or birthdates
 • Your phone numbers

Going hand in hand with securing your life by using strong passwords is to never write them down or store your passwords in an easily accessible location. Don't leave them on your desktop, don't tape them to your monitor screen, and don't keep them in your wallet or purse. This all seems common sense, but the reality is that people often do it and often regret it later.

Coming soon: Improvements to the Execulink Telecom website

In early summer, we will be launching our new website– a refreshed look plus new features to improve your experience. At the same time, you’ll also notice enhancements to Member Services – your online portal to manage your Execulink Telecom services. Stay tuned for more information about these exciting changes.

Rural Wireless High Speed Internet is now 3x the speed!

Wireless High Speed Internet from Execulink Telecom is a popular alternative for residents living in areas where High Speed DSL or High Speed Cable Internet isn't available. The need for faster Internet speeds is on the rise with the increase in high usage activities like streaming audio, video and games.

We recognize the need for faster Internet speeds and as a result have made upgrades on our Wireless network. We're pleased to announce that we have increased our Residential Wireless High Speed Internet from 512k to up to 1.5Mbps – for the same price. You can now browse the Internet and stream your favourite movies and radio stations with much greater ease. To find out if Wireless High Speed is available in your area click here.

Unsolicited telephone calls

We want to make you aware of potentially fraudulent phone calls from persons representing themselves from Microsoft, HP or other companies. The representatives may indicate that your computer is infected with malicious software and/or needs to be repaired. The representative may ask that you open 'Event Viewer' on your computer and proceed to a website to allow for 'Remote Assistance'. Some people have been told that they must pay for this remote assistance or their computer may become unstable or unusable.

Please be aware that this is an attempt by unknown parties, using scare tactics for monetary gain. If you receive an unsolicited call of this nature we suggest that you end the call immediately.

While Execulink Telecom does have the ability to offer remote assistance to our customers when needed, we will never suggest that we initiate a remote connection unless you have first contacted us for technical assistance and we will always obtain your approval prior to a connection. Further, all interactions performed by Execulink Telecom technical support staff are recorded for quality assurance purposes.

1. A recent study has found that 38% of Canadians prefer to get their news and information from TV, 30% from their computer and 23% chose newspapers. Out of those that read their news online, 81% say they won't pay to read news on the Internet, and 90% would find free alternatives if their preferred news websites started charging for content.

2. March 20th or 21st of each year signals the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and conversely the start of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. If you were standing on the equator during the start of spring and the start of autumn, it is the only two times during the year where you would see the sun pass directly overhead.
