Fee-For-Carriage - Speak Your Mind!

You’ve probably seen at least some of the brutal TV and newspaper ads by now: there is a huge debate going on in this country about whether the CRTC should permit TV broadcasters like CBC, CTV and Global to charge new fees for their over-the-air channels (the ones you can pick up for free with an antenna) and, if so, who should pay.

The problem is, while these issues may well have a profound effect on TV viewers in Canada’s smaller town and rural communities, so far this argument has been between the big broadcasting, cable and satellite companies. It’s about Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and the other major cities because that’s where the big money is. Everybody forgets about Canadians who live outside the major cities.
